Browning A5 Manufacture Date By Serial Number
Browning Auto 5 Serial Number Date. The date of manufacture of a Browning A-5. Browning A5 16 gauge only. Browning 12ga numbers began. Example: 8M1000 = A 1958 Auto-5 standard weight shotgun with serial number 1000 G85001-G99000 8G1-8G2000 M=standard weight. G=light weight 1968-76 In 1969 Browning started using two digits for the date of manufacture which was followed by a four digit code that identified the type of Auto-5.
I recently inherited what appears to be a Browning A5 from my father. I know very little about it or shotguns in general so I am hoping to find some help identifying this shotgun. I've documented all of the symbols and numbers I can find on it and taken pictures. From what I can tell the various pieces point to 1920s to early 1930s.

Any help that anyone could give me would be great. I'm also looking for advice on where to sell this shotgun if you all think anyone would be interested in it. Like I said, I know very little about it and the wife doesn't want it in the house with our new baby.
